What to Pack for Uganda?

What You Need for Uganda

We recommend lightweight, breathable, hand-washable, and quick-drying clothing in muted colors. Use an "onion pattern" layering approach.

Clothing & Footwear

  • Long pants – zip-off styles recommended (khaki, olive, dark green or brown)
  • Shorts (mid-thigh or longer)
  • Short and long-sleeved shirts (muted colors, lightweight and breathable)
  • Sweater, jacket, windbreaker (mornings can be cool)
  • Waterproof rain jacket
  • Undergarments (quick-drying material recommended)
  • Breathable socks (Craghoppers anti-mosquito recommended)
  • Sun hat with brim and chin strap
  • Swimsuit (optional, for lodge pools)
  • Sturdy, waterproof walking shoes with closed toe
  • Trekking sandals for lodge relaxation

Gear & Electronics

  • Camera, lenses, batteries, charging equipment
  • Sufficient memory cards
  • UK adapter plug (type G)
  • Multi-plug with USB
  • Powerbank
  • Headlamp or flashlight
  • Binoculars
  • Day pack for daily activities with rain cover
  • Suitcase or duffel bag
  • Waterproof bags for camera protection
  • Stainless steel thermal bottles
  • Pocket knife

Health & Hygiene

  • Malaria prophylaxis (consult your travel doctor)
  • Insect repellent for skin and clothes
  • Sun protection and sunglasses
  • Personal medication and emergency kit
  • Wet wipes and disinfectant
  • Cooling towels with microfiber technology
  • Anti-mosquito impregnated clothes (Craghoppers recommended)

Documents & Finances

  • Valid passport (min. 6 months validity after trip)
  • Visa
  • Yellow fever certificate and vaccination records
  • Medical insurance card
  • USD in cash (notes from 2009 or newer, undamaged, unfolded, without markings)
  • Credit card (coordinate with bank regarding use abroad)
  • Copies of all documents (leave copies with someone at home)
  • Airline tickets / e-tickets
  • Copy of travel itinerary

Specifically for Gorilla Tracking

  • Garden gloves (protect your hands when grabbing branches)Essential
