The Pearl of Africa

Uganda is a small, landlocked country among the top ten regarding biodiversity. Still largely undiscovered, authentic and breathtaking.

Here Are the Reasons

Winston Churchill called Uganda the "Pearl of Africa" – and he was right. Uganda is "one beautiful garden" where food grows "almost without labor." On a comparatively small area, Uganda offers incredible variety: mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, more bird species than all of Europe, dramatic waterfalls, tropical rainforests, vast savannas and friendly people.

Uganda differs from other safari destinations through varied activities: boat safaris, walking safaris, primate and wildlife tracking, jeep safaris, hikes, and local encounters. Located on the equator at elevations of 1,000–5,000+ meters, with Lake Victoria and volcanic Virunga Mountains moderating the weather, Uganda offers ideal travel conditions year-round.

What Makes Uganda So Special

Bwindi & Mgahinga National Park

Mountain Gorillas

Uganda is home to more than 50% of the world's mountain gorilla population. With more than 25 gorilla groups across 5 gates in Bwindi and Mgahinga NP, the encounter with a gorilla family in their natural habitat is one of the most moving nature experiences in the world.

Kibale Forest National Park

Chimpanzee Tracking

Kibale Forest National Park is considered one of the best places in the world to observe wild chimpanzees. With a density of over 1,500 chimpanzees on a relatively small area, sightings are almost guaranteed. Kibale is also home to 12 other primate species.

Africa's Birding Paradise

1,160+ Bird Species

Uganda has more bird species than all of Europe – on a much smaller area. The famous Shoebill Stork, butterflies, giant crocodiles, and the most considerable number of endangered Nubian (Rothschild) Giraffes. Mabamba Swamp, Bwindi and Kibale are must-visits for birders.

Only Uganda Offers All Seven

The Big 7

Uganda is home to The Big 7: Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Rhinos, Cape Buffalo – plus Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees. No other country lets you experience all seven on a single trip. The tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park are world-famous.

Africa's Most Powerful Waterfall

Murchison Falls

Murchison Falls is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world – the entire Nile is forced through a narrow gorge. Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest and home to elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions, hippos and the rare Shoebill.

Uganda's Wild North

Kidepo Valley NP

The most remote and wild national park in Uganda. Hardly any tourists, but incredible wildlife density: lions, cheetahs, topi, eland, and the Karamojong culture. A true expedition.
